What is a available to sell?
Available to sell is the yardage you can actually commit to a new order: stock on hand, minus what is already promised to other orders.
Also called: ATS, available-to-promise.
On-hand yardage and available yardage are different numbers, and quoting from the first is how a distributor promises the same fabric twice. Available to sell nets out open orders, allocations and holds.
In fabric it must also be calculated per dye lot rather than per style, because an order that cannot ship from a single lot is not really fillable at that quantity. A style showing 600 yards on hand across three lots may have an effective availability of 280 — the largest single lot.
